HISTORY OF THE SKIT PROGRAM

  • Developed in 2019/20 by the Clackamas County Strangulation Response Initiative.

  • Materials funded by Clackamas County.

  • Based on SAFE Kits.

  • Purpose to close the gap between an assault and a victim receiving needed medical assessment and referrals to services and support.

Distribution

  • Produced first kits fall 2020.

  • Distribution began late 2020.

  • First kit completed with a patient January 2021.

  • As of January 2024,  29 facilities in 11 counties participate in the program.

  • Over 350 kits completed by the  February 2024. 

  • Tracking of SKIT use provided by Clackamas County Strangulation Response Initiative.

  • Ongoing training provided for law enforcement on strangulation, the strangulation supplemental and SKIT access.
